Applause to Wanyama but Kenya needs more players succeeding in Europe. You cannot build a team around one player, much less a defensive midfielder. Almost all the Kenya players who head to Europe are flopping.
Kahata could not make it in Albania. Kimani flopped in Greece division 2. Arita and Situma flopped in Albania. Lavatsa flopped in Algeria. Blackberry flopped everywhere. Wanga flopped in Vietnam as did Oboya.
Others are regressing. Mariga has an uncertain future due to injury. Oliech is now slowed by injuries. Johana Omollo and Ayub Masika are now back in division 2.
I know it is hard. One injury can doom your career. Part of the problem, is Kenya's lack of football pedigree that dissuades foreign managers from giving Kenyans a chance. Thats why we badly need to get rid of Nyamweya.
And Kenyan fans should support local football. We need a viable league that can enable the top players to earn a decent living at home. Government should support local teams instead of breaking their back with malicious heavy fines from taxation.
And Kenya needs to strengthen its youth development. Kenyans are failing in Europe precisely because they are far behind in basics like technique, positioning, tactical awareness etc. You cant learn some of these as an adult. Bad habits gained from playing street football with ball ya jwala cannot be unlearned once a player is 18 0r 19
Government should support teams for example by making land available so clubs can build clubhouse, training grounds and start youth development schemes. Good national teams are built based on clubs and leagues with good structures and strong youth developments.
In Germany, the ministry in charge of sports works hand in hand with the federation to ensure every team in the top tier and in the second tier has youth structures. Thats why they are always winning.
If Kenyan clubs start building solid youth schemes, there will be more Kenyans succeeding in Europe.
