2. Carry a first aid box, a fire extinguisher, 2 safety triangles, spare, jack and wheel spanner in your car at all times. Plus an empty jerrican (ya kubebea mafuta ikiisha). Accidents and emergencies can happen at any time.
3. Learn how to dim lights at night especially when approaching other cars or pedestrians. Some of us see poorly at night, so when you shine lights onto our eyes, even with our walking sticks, we'll stagger into a ditch.
4. Keep left unless overtaking. Don't overtake on the left. I think this is the most abused rule on our roads. Does the Highway Code still exist? Do people know that a rule called Lane Discipline exists? wait until you come across the guys who love taking their sweet time on the inner lanes, you will wait forever for a chance to overtake I see KeNHA has put big road signs all along Thika Highway saying "Keep Left Unless Overtaking". But who is following this rule anyway? Kenyan drivers cannot read road signs! Or completely ignore them! At KCA University there was a trailer doing 20kph on the rightmost lane. I taught this lesson above to the first-timers. It's called LANE DISCIPLINE! It's one way of making sure everyone arrives at their destination safely; both the slow and the fast drivers. Set out to correct the world's wrongs and you will most certainly wind up adding to them.

Driving lesson number 2169: There is nothing like a "fast lane" in the highway code. All vehicles must be driven on the left-most lane even if the road has 10 lane! The only exception is when you are overtaking.
Driving lesson number 1575: You should never overtake a vehicle from the left hand side.
Hope that clears things up.
The problem is that nowadays, there are no driving lessons to speak of and the driving test is one big sham! Wewe mtu ya hesabu, which numbers are these you are quoting? Anyway, very well said. But my question is why? Why fanatically cling onto the left-most lane and keep weaving in and out of it to overtake slow-moving trailers? Why not just get onto a clearer lane closer to the center and floor it? What is wrong with overtaking from the left on a one way road? Is it because you can crash into someone else overtaking the same car from the other side? If this is why, I don't see how consistently overtaking from the right alleviates this risk. You could still crash into someone trying to retreat to the all-sacred left-most lane. Learn first to treat your time as you would your money, then treat your money as you do your time.

Precisely my question. Thank you. Ideally the different lanes should have different speed limits[minimum]. The outer most lane is for utility vehicles and buses, the second outer most for heavy trucks, the next for slow moving and lastly, the inner most for the fastest. Not unless you drive with your eyes on the speedometer, you wouldn't know when you drop to 95kmh,so unless overtaking, leave the inner most lane alone. I see guys driving at 80kmh and hogging the inner most lane,it should be made illegal. I agree with you in principle. I just don't think the categories are that discrete. For example, it's basic rule to overtake on the right. Which means most drivers look at the right mirror more often than the left mirror. By default, many drivers will assume others will overtake from the right. So it does not mean you cannot overtake from the left on dual road. But the risk is higher than when you overtak from the right. Hence the first highwayrule: keep left.

So, what happens when you are safely overtaking from the right and the other safe driver 2 lanes away to your right is busy careening back to the left-most lane? If anything, thinking that no one is going to be coming from that side is what is dangerous. You will be far less careful than the guy who accepts that "overtakers" can pop out even from the dividing wall. But I contest the idea that it leads to everybody's good. I don't see how. To the contrary, it causes problems. And by observation, I think most drivers agree.
