Agree with Jus Blazin that personal cars are the problem but think more roads just get people buying [or maybe using] more personal cars. Nairobi's traffic mess will only be sorted by an efficient and reliable [not these mats that offload passengers before their destination etc] public transport system - be it light rail, tram or even KBS of old ....

But at least make the first move...don't talk theories and bore us with statistics we all know, be a man of action! true we have a poor public transport system changing this will be the hardest thing ever...how many countries have their public transport system in the hands of ordinary citizens...this is a recipe of chaos...you charge me with 1000 bob congestion fee yet if I leave my car at home I will suffer the whole day plus pay an arm and a leg for very short distances... possunt quia posse videntur

True. I think we have to sort out the public system first.... then, to get people to use the public system, use the heavy fines. Otherwise, what options is let for people once the fine is enforced without an alternative? Our mats decide where to pick and where to drop.... so, you could be headed to Ngong Road from Juja road and they say "mwisho" at city stadium - in the name of using pyanya routes!

What has Uhuru accomplished so far ?
Which governor has actually accomplished anything ?
Which minister has accomplished anything so far ?
Has the new parliament even done anything of note ?
At least Kidero has put his foot down against corruption which will go a long way in making the city better.

There are some matatu owners who swear that they would not join a sacco. Operating a matatu without being tied to a sacco pays more (overloading, no sacco fees, no fixed routes, etc). I also think the number of new 14 seater matatus are far above the 1500 limit. Regardless of the fact that a second hand Toyota Hiace costs 2M+. Set out to correct the world's wrongs and you will most certainly wind up adding to them.
