court has no power to order teachers back to work as that will be unconstitutional (there is something in the constitution about kenyans not being subjected to forced labour, slavery etc). the court had power to hear the parties and declare the strike illegal - then tsc can order them back and failure to them going back fire them. now if they don't go to work who shall be in contempt? knut for the teachers disobeying a court order or each individual teacher? or is the order to knut to order teachers back to work? judges smoking weed and over reaching - seemingly.

My first salary as a graduate teacher was ksh 3270 plus a house allowance of ksh 1500. The house allowance was not automatic. A Primary school area inspector had to be send to your house to ascertain that you were actually living there and not in a 'cave'. It was only that your hse allowance could be processed. It was a very painful experience and humiliating to say the least. When an opportunity arose to jump ship, I did not even inform anybody...I DESERTED. By then it was the most frustrating career one could imagine...Those BAs from other universities who could not be absorbed in the ministries ( those days it was a must for the government to give graduates jobs!!!) were sent to teach...The long and short of it is that teachers should be respected and not be treated as second class citizens...At the same time the teachers should also be understanding and not ask for too much when they don't offer the same in return...

KNUT is being economical with the truth. The 2003 CBA ratified the 1997 legal notice. They keep on mentioning the 1997 legal notice to draw sympathy from the public who will not dig deeper to know the truth.

ION, if Sossion wants to launch a political career, he should just resign and run for a political office. We've seen this tricks so many times.

A teacher - goes on leave every 3 months, can work less than 8hrs a day, can earn an extra pay when they go to mark the national exams.Work is not life threatening.

A nurse - Works through out the year and gets leave by chance, can work more than 8hr a day. Work conditions are pathetic all round and potentially life threatening.

My view, all salaries need to be normalized maybe pay per hr

The 2003 CBA did no such thing. It was based on a return to work formula drafted around the negotiated terms contained in the 1997 Legal Notice which by the way was negotiated by a team of lawyers led by the eminent George Oraro SC
