You guys should read what countries like Spain and Germany are doing to develop players. Then you will begin to understand why Africa is being left behind.

maybe start here

http://www.guardian.co.u...ermany-bust-boom-talent

European countries have always had good structures but now they are going to higher levels of player development.

Kenyan youngstars mitaani are for the most part still playing with ball ya jwala. Playing with a ball that does not bounce is detrimental to development. For one thing you do not learn to head properly, to curve freekicks, make long range passes. Its like learning maths and ignoring fractions.

And the available playing fields are ever dwindling as they are grabbed by well connected individuals. No wonder Kenya players from the 1980s were better. But playing fields are disappearing in other African nations as well.

Thats true. But players like Kanu, Amokachi and Okocha excelled for top European teams. Today the best Nigerian strikers like Ideye and Emenike plays for some team in Russia or Ukraine

Here is why I think Nigeria is regressing

And how could they loose to Uruguay, a team that is struggling to qualify for the 2014 WC ? A country whose population is 3 million versus Nigeria's 140 million ?

Hey Uruguay are 2 time WC winners, if you talk about population i think China and India would be winning every WC...you need to have structures to perform well

@Alba .....to add on this, why is Uruguay in the Cofederations and not Argentina?

Mzeiya brings up the fact that Uruguay have won the world cup. But that was 50 years ago.

Lets talk about recent history. Uruguay are 5th in the South America world cup qualifiers behind Chile and Ecuador. They are in danger of not qualifying.

Uruguay qualified for the Confed cup because they won COPA America in 2011. But COPA America is not taken seriously by Brazil and Argie. Both teams failed to make the semis. I dont think Messi even played for Argie. Uruguay beat Paraguay in the final.

In South America, the real measure of strength is the world cup qualifiers which all teams take seriously. And unlike Africa, all teams are in one group, so they all play against each other.

Are you sure about Arge. Who hosted the Copa in 2011. Just to summarise there can only be one winner in each tournament and obviously every country hopes to win it. Can't make any excuses for Super Eagles but your bit about Africa regressing is missing the whole picture

What picture am I missing ?

Dunkang. There is a lot of exaggeration there. How can a player of 42 years still be good enough to play 90 minutes at a high level ?

That article actually claims that West was still be playing in his late 50s. Surely you dont believe that.

Age faking usually happens by a few years not 10 as the article claims. You cant convince people that you are 17 if you are 27. I disctincly remember Okocha when he was at Frankfurt. He claimed to be 19. he did not look 29. At most he was 22

In any case age faking or not, these guys played for top teams and excelled unlike today's waste pipes.

I think most Brazilians would have preferred to meet Italy in the final, Spain might just walk away with this.

He got injured before the game and was sent home to recover.

Btw Sunday's final will start at midnight local time, i really hope the World cup fixtures won't be this late.

I prefer these timings. I'm now too old to watch night matches in the pub, also too mature to fight over the remote with the family (read wife) plus I can't watch on the other tv because it's antisocial. 10pm....midnight is great! Plus I get to help my son with homework as madam watches Alejandro.

BBI will solve it
