Rift Valley Railways’ contract to manage the rail link between Mombasa and Kampala will be terminated if the government buys a proposal by Transport principal secretary nominee Nduva Muli.
this thing has been loss making thus it has been a drag on Tranny's earnings....oh hail GoK for another populist move...do they have the money to refund Transcentury and others? Always read further...dont rely on newspaper reports to draw conclusions...let them cancel...for me I see it as payday...just like if UG was to cancel Umeme's concession...do you know how much money I would get? This are agreements with massive legal & financial implications...you just dont wake up & say its over!
One of the lessons I learnt is that GoK often has its way.
1) I remain a fan of KK but it can be tiring. The only plus is when the price dips, I buy more but it is a long wait.
2) Look at KPLC. The Rights Issue IM had information on a pending tariff increase. Nothing. And then Ruto beats it over the head in a populist move. I am staying out of Umeme for the same reason.
3) This is Kenya/Africa where you can fight the populism (like KK) but it takes a long time.
4) I think RVR is in breach of various clauses & GoK/GoU may have cause. I am not sure coz I am not a lawyer nor have I read the detailed agreement.
