Quote:
As the participants did not know that the meeting was being aired live by state TV, they spoke their minds unreservedly.

Their suggestions centred around military action as a decisive response to what one of them called a "declaration of war".

One of the politicians suggested sending special forces to destroy the dam; another thought of jet fighters to scare the Ethiopians; and a third called for Egypt to support rebel groups fighting the government in Addis Ababa.

"This could yield results in the diplomatic arena,'' liberal politician and former presidential candidate Ayman Nour told the gathering.

Muhammad Anwar al-Sadat, the leader of the secular Reform and Development party, said the presidency should have warned the participants in advance that the meeting would be broadcast live.

Tough times. The problem with Ethiopia's move is that it emboldens East African countries to follow suit and this could be trouble for the Egyptian economy

Exactly!! Furthermore, it's not like the Dam will hold onto the water...after running the turbines, the water can be redirected back to the river.

and now am thinking most of the Blue Nile is in Ethiopia Egypt should be very careful.

These Egyptians.....Has anyone noticed how the Ethiopian PM has become so close with the Presidency of Kenya..Anyway, now the world knows that they would propose to destroy the dam, or sponsor rebels like they did in the case of Eritrea.

Ethiopia should go ahead and build that Dam, plus any other two if possible. What is this B/S about Egyptians thinking they are small gods and others should suffer and not utilize their natural resources.
Even Kenya and other riparian countries should go ahead, water will still reach Egypt blally.

Tell us please?
Coz I know Egypt is more battle hardened than all Nile riparian states combined, this country has been in war since the beginning of history...at one time it even defeated the mighty Israel.

Have you ever visited the Luxor area of Egypt? You will see fighter jets and tanks hidden under bunkers in the form of sand dunes.

there will be no war... however kumea pembe gets you some respect on this planet. N.Sudan has the worlds largest sugar complex - irrigating sugar cane from waters of the nile. Egypt has a booming cotton industry based on the same river. The two utilize 90% of the benefits, yet the rest of us are left to pick the 10% left. sisi watu wa upstream we are supposed to simply use these waters for fishing.... UJINGA GANI HII?
