Alba wrote:So I see that MPs have just voted unanimously to raise their salaries. Please help me out here. I thought the new constitution was written such that MPs could not overrule the SRC.
If MPs can actually overturn the SRC then whomever wrote the new constitution goofed big time.
Secondly, does UK have to sign this bill for it to be valid ?
Also, what recourse do the public have or do we just accept and move on in typical Kenya impunity style
There was this article by Nyachae(CIC) over the weekend in a nutshell he disabused parliaments notion that all they needed to do was quash SRCs gazette notice on salaries and get paid the salary of the previous parliament|
He further wrote that the gazettement was for public consumption not the authority for the quantum of salary. The correct amount had already been communicated directly to the public office(PSC) responsible to pay.
Art122(3) is the gem!!A member shall not vote for any question in which the member has pecuniary interest!"
So parliament cant consider and adopt any bill, motion or matter such as the one that is about to be tabled by the committee on delegated legislation!
They are simply breaking all rules...
