Otherwise, let competition come in with high efficiency to supply the power at even lower price!!! why should private sector capital pay for public infrastructure while the govt is spending taxpayer's money to buy laptops toys for children which is a private sector function? @mkonomtupu, KPLC infrastructure is KPLC assets owned by the shareholders. These shareholders and their appointed managers should be the ones to develop ingenious way of growing their assets and increasing efficiency inorder to gain for development of the country. Otherwise, lets introduce competition, get the efficiency and consequently the lower energy tariff that our country deserves Competition will not be charity...this will be business guys who would want a return on capital employed....nobody would want to invest in an industry where pricing power is in the hands of politicians....btwn in countries where there are numeral power distributors...power tariffs have never comedown....I can give you examples if you want....I think you just like WSR dont understand the problems in the energy sector 1. The grid dilapitated-it needs money to be improved...where does the money come from? State or Consumers? 2. Expensive and unreliable power sources-thermal, Aggrekko generators...hydro-how do you reduce this? Investing in Geothermal...but Geothermal development needs money...where does the money come from? state or consumers? If the Jubilee governments wants cheap power then.... They need to nationalise and Subsidise the energy sector....we will see how far they will go....

Shareholders need Return On Capital Employed. - KPLC has this and would even get more with efficiency 2. If KE tariff structure mirrored a fair price, politicians and government would not interfere 3. KPLC asset are dilapidated coz they havent been doing what is required over time. May the shareholders think outside the box and get a way of fixing this!!! 4. Production of cheap electricity is being worked on. Watch the space > All Jubilee government is telling KPLC is to put its messy house in order. The MPs have done the same and change is invetably coming #KPLC_Shareholder_Bewarned

I just hate the ignorance and arrogance of KPLC and its shareholders some of whom have never seen a KPLC Bill. Whats the use of Rural Electrification Levy, Fuel Levy, FOREX levy, Fixed Charge in the bills. This KPLC buy electricity at $0.07 from KENGEN and sell to me at $0.20 per KWH. The President's mother, former first lady Ngina, is the largest individual shareholder at KPLC, someone tell me this is not a game we are been played. They are now doing a study to 'ribber stamp' this thuggery. Receive with simplicity everything that happens to you.” ― Rashi

What will be Kenya Powers ROCE now that they wont get a tariff hike? I forsee this thing recording losses in the future...cos...to grow revenues they need clients...now that they will slow down addition of clients...revenues will not grow...trust me the cost of repairing the current grid will only go up....plus KP will need to pay for the power from KenGen and IPP's...so gross margins will take a hit...

the deal wrote:National blackout...the ancient grid has finally collapsed....candle lit dinners folks. At around 1.30 pm this afternoon, the two transmission lines between the Olkaria geothermal load centre and Ndenderu sub-station near Nairobi tripped, while they were carrying 400 MW of electricity. Subsequently, the national interconnected grid and generating system also tripped, causing a national power outage. Kenya Power engineers immediately commenced a ‘blackstart’ with electricity supplied from Uganda to Sondu Miriu power station. By the time of issuing this statement, electricity supply to the national grid had commenced with feeders in West Kenya. Kenya Power will issue a comprehensive statement once it establishes why the two transmission lines tripped. We wish to apologise to our customers for the inconvenience and assure them that everything possible is being done to restore power as quickly as possible. http://www.kplc.co.ke/in...106&tx_mininews_pi1[showUid]=116&cHash=39b16741a9

@the deal, I read that "black start" thing and i almost fell off my chair. What it actually means is that the targeted supplier stations do not have enough capacity to prop the grid .....................Welcome to the world of Kenya Paraffin Lamps and Candles.. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

Get rid of that engineer and his fat cat managers and bring in the creative minds we have. KPLC needs a radical surgery may be its time Mr Jonathan Ciano went back to this company. Uchumi now is ok. Fully agree with you mwekez@ji. I remember a similar argument by the mobile operators saying that they will not be able to maintain their infrastructure if calling rates went down from 10 shillings to 3 shillings per minute. But Safaricom then went ahead to post a record 25B PBT!

Looks like the only way this counter can go up is if a strategic investor comes on board and even hopefully buy us out. I'm praying for that to happen. But that said, Njoroge, the MD has done his time. It's time he left because he does not fit in the Jubilee working system. KPLC needs a marketer at the helm, someone who can put customer satisfaction first. BBI will solve it :)

Have you seen the advert Kenya power is the proud sponsor of ...very strange at these times when they have no money? Me think KPLC does not need to advertise their product is in very high demand and they are unable to supply... Why not concentrate on building capacity

In other countries, green energy is considered expensive simply because of the efficiency of the electricity suppliers. I see a business study being conducted on kenya parafin. How a monopoly lost to solar and green energy. I'm I the only one who's 100% sure that my dream home will never be connected to them? Jose: If I make it through this thug life, I'll see you one day.
