When does KQ release their results? I hope the dividends are not delayed till November.

I'm not optimistic given what BA did. But should be decent given near monopoly in Africa.

GG: KQ has been consistently paying out 1.75 for the past 4 years - in good times or bad. I think they will maintain the payout BUT will they delay the AGM & payment?

KQ will be having an Investors briefing next week Friday. I expect them to release their 2009 results then. If their 2nd half performance exactly mirrors that of the first half then we should expect an EPS of 3.19. However,I do expect them to perform somewhat better than this although an EPS greater than Kshs 5 might be a stretch. Various reasons have been given in other posts on KQ and I will not go into them here. An EPS of 3.19 would still enable them to pay a dividend of Kshs 1.75 unless they have a RADICAL change of policy, which would surprise me. Nonetheless,I see no reason for them to change their AGM date/ date of paying dividends.

Please note a few airlines are actually making profits e.g. Virgin Atlantic doubled their profits for the yr ending March 2009.

It appears to me that the Board of Director's confidence in this company is low. Its management team is not doing well. Its assets quality is still fair though. Its operational environment is turbulent. I am not happy that this company continues hoarding earnings and the prospect of an individual investor getting back a return worth talking about is nil given the current operational environment.

You said 'Its management team is not doing well. Its assets quality is still fair though. Its operational environment is turbulent.'

I am under the impression KQ has done well vis-a-vis its competitors... SAA has been making losses (government owned) & many African airlines have shut down.

@mwanahisa - I expect EPS between 4 & 5 for 2008-9. They did say that they expect a better 2H (in the 1H commentary) because there were fewer 'expensive' hedges as well as more flights/passengers booked.

KQ has hoarded retained earnings to the tune of about 20 billion over the last few years in order to invest for a better future. This future is taking too long to be realized. Trade of. If that money were deposited in a savings account it could be earning more than they are making and giving as dividend. Retained earnings belong to the investors. Questions are in order regarding what the BOD and Management team are doing with this money. Uchumi once went on a similar errand. We waited. See what happened!
