@ Alma.....I'm not really a guru when it comes to macroeconomics but how exactly do you stimulate national productivity. I believe a small amount of increase in government expenditure can stimulate a greater increase in the national income....though i agree 2 years might not be realistic to achieve an economic boom. Increase in expenditure in areas such as Education, health care, defence and infrastructure may increase the national income by increasing efficiency and productive output and capacity.

[quote=alma]A lot of us obviously have no clue about the meaning of inflation and crushing economies

In the first month of the Jubilee gov't we have

1. MP's salary increases
2. Workers 14% pay increases
3. Free Laptops
4. Less money collected by KRA

This is only month 1.

There is no free money in this world. There is no economic growth without productivity.

Someone has to pay. You will pay in cash (tax increases) or in kind (brookside milk at 100 bob)

That is what you get for euphoric democracy. Consequences coming up at a theatre near you.

thats the beauty of laissez faire il be very happy if milk reaches 100 bob i gather tomato is 15 bob at sm places...

Thats due to the heavy rains that hit the country last month.

Hata kama you didn't vote for UK you don't have to criticize his govt (which is still not yet in place) for the sake of it. He's only been President for almost a month now how has that affected KRA's revenue collection for the quarter (Jan-Mar 2013).

"The taxman said on Friday that there has been a significant improvement in the collections this month (April) and his agents had collected Sh1.5 billion last Thursday."

sa story za kuvotia jubilee inatoka wapi even OAR would have faced the same hata Dida or Martha....they dont control the weather at statehouse that for a fact I know...me am happy nyanya is 15 bob, thats all....
ohh and i had an MP saying they want a govt vehicle, obviously fuelled by the gava and a driver...

am just happy my babies are doing well...smile

I hope this topic now takes this path as it can help even I who is totally confused.

Gov't expenditure is good, but when 60% of that is on recurrent expenditure ie money that was probably used in Sabina joy and Ndogo Ngogos, then you are in trouble.

I'm an out and out conservative. I believe the work of gov't is to empower the entreprenuer not to burden the citizen with more debt and costs.

There was an increase in gov't expenditure yes, but on MP salaries and laptops.

Not on the infrastructure and the tools one needs to run a well oiled ecomomic pathway.

Seriously, look at what Uhuru's gov't is going to spend on our security. 5000 policemen to guard our Mheshimiwas. Do you think that is good expenditure? the money will still be used to buy G3's not educating our police service nor getting them good tools to use.

No in this area, we shall increase how much money we spend to buy FAKE bomb detectors.

When other reasonable gov't go through increases in gov't expenditure, they spend them on TANGIBLE assets eg massive transport systems, improved communication, gov't efficiency etc.

Here we increase gov't expenditure to give out bigger tenders and buy things like laptops that will have a shelf life of exactly 14 days in the hands of a 7 year old.

This is not macro economics. Its a tax and spend on white elephants gov't. I pity the macro economists in these offices coz they are doing an impossible job.

A friend mine says this on FB:

If you have ever experienced how an MP spend on his voters, i mean, his constituents, then you will know why they need a high pay rise and an interest free loan of 7M. As long as the electorate dont change the habbit of being bribed to cast a vote, if they dont change from seeing an MP as their leader and not their ATM MACHINE, I am left with only one option, to suport them. Let them be given a pay rise and the loan. After all, on daily basis we call them for harambee, funeral contributions, financial help when our wives give birth, some even call to get help to pay bride price....etc

I sympathize with the mp's its a very hard job - plus all the contributions they have to make they deserve the increase. Even agwenyis car stalled somewhere because his fuel "ended".
we should not demonize the mp's they have rights also.

Plus we forget that MPs were elected by us meaning they are a reflection of ourselves. Think about it, wouldn't you do the same if your were in their position? Right now, aren't you hoping your employer gives you a pay hike for those employed? Or aren't you hoping your business makes more money for those in business?

we elected them, and most kenyans are not even concerned about the pay increase apart from a few on social media - I think we should support the mp's then after the increment we should encourage as many kenyans as possible to line up outside mbunge waiting for handouts, and make sure we send them invites to all weddings and burials and dowry ceremonies in their constituencies.
