KPLC is interesting. God gives us rain which is a blessing but somehow this becomes an excuse for their insane power blackouts.

Wah! A 14 hour blackout is not good for guys like me who make money online.

How can the private sector enter into this power business, albeit in small scale? Is there any legal barrier that works against power production/distribution by the private sector?

How do multiple power distributors work in places like the UK?

@Grolut, What the independent power producers do in the developed world is to load their excess production to the national grid. The consolidation effect is enormous as anyone with surplus sells it and the sum total is huge.

Small scale production in Kenya would work with the right policy environment. Solar, Wind and Geothermal are the way to go.

But first we have to disband Kenya Power and Darkness and we start afresh. It is just one useless monopoly answerable to nobody, in my opinion.

Thanks @Gathige but I meant the providers, not producers e.g. edf Energy, nPower, Southern Electric etc. Sample here http://en.wikipedia.org/...exas_electricity_market
