We seriously need to amend the constitution on what I think was an oversight by the people who put it together.

We need to amend so the Presidential runner-up and his running mate get into Sanate and Parliament respectively - automatically after elections to head the opposition in both houses. Right now we not only have a weak opposition but one that is leaderless and this is dangerous for our country and may takes us back to dictatorship.

Now do not think of UK and Ruto if you voted for them but think of the future, long after they have done their term and retired. This would avoid the shameful scenario we're facing now. What's you take?

spot on...the government should always be accountable to its citizens,a good opposition that is vibrant and keeps the government on its toes in regards to its promises and how it conducts its work does this for the common mwananchi...right now they are all over like headless chicken...very good idea.

No need,the guyz should nominate themselves and our katiba allows it.It should be just that the candidates appear first on the party lists for nomination just like Mudavadi had done initially.

A time will come, maybe in my kids' time when we will not vote on tribal lines but on party lines like the US. Obama and Democrats won 2008 because Bush (Republicans) messed up big time and the Democrats picked it up in both houses and said what they would do if elected.

I can bet you we will have a divided opposition without the leaders there and that's not good for anyone especially a govt that's ambitious as the Jubilee one.

The minority leaders should get automatic positions since in this constitution no minority leader can get into parliament or senate.

The assumption that only a presidential candidate can lead the party's parliamentary group is false.

What the present system does is that it gives parties an opportunity to re-organise themselves every time they lose a presidential election. There will now be new blood in ODM...and that is good for the party.

Unfortunately, many ODM MPs and followers believe that only Raila can lead the party. This is why they are now looking for ways to accommodate him.

If you ask me; the proposal to change the constitution also breeds dictatorship in political parties... and this will eventually creep into government once the party wins the presidency.

The losing parties should now be busy looking for party leaders with a national appeal who can make a formidable run for the top seat.

This belief that only one person can lead the party is retrogressive.

Let other leaders come up from within the houses. It is only in Kenya where we worry about election losers. Give young people a chance and discard this idea of father figures in tge govt and oppisition all the time

you wrongly assume that party business is only carried out in parliament. I understand your ignorance because that is how party politics are played out in Kenya, they are in essence a one-MAN outfit. As DPORK said on inauguration day we need to build parties. The party leader can lead the party and the party appoints opposition leader in the house who receives instructions from the party leader. The senate at least has Wetangula and also Mutula, and Dalmas Otieno (no, I wont name Orengo) who can lead the opposition.

Let us amend the katiba and scrap the senate as we have done without it and can do without it.A complete waste of taxpayers money.
