Not sure what the loss from the story is anyway, even for the sceptics. Options are:
1. It's a PR exercise, so potential bribers are scared off and everyone thinks he means business
2. It's true so we all benefit from the integrity

Because if there was money exchanged which was being eaten quietly, we'd all be worse off.

Question, Is giving a bribe a crime in our laws? If yes I will want to be seeing the "criminals" in court instead of this kind of stories.Hope its a true story not a PR exercise.

Assuming it to be true, it was very well executed - so as to eliminate any credible grounds for prosecution.

The said gifts were given via aides, and no particular conditionalities/demands were attached.
