I really feel sorry for Bensouda, Ocampo really messed this one up.

I feel very sorry and sad for the PEV victims especially the ones who lost loved ones.

BBI will solve it

Statement by the Office of the Prosecutor

The Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), today issued the following statement relating to the situation in the Republic of Kenya:

“The Office of the Prosecutor deplores the recent stream of sensationalist reports in the Kenyan media, on the level of witness cooperation. Witness protection remains one of our highest priorities. The Office will therefore not be drawn into any public speculation on the status of witnesses. The courage and integrity of witnesses are essential to the Court’s determination of the truth, which is at the heart of justice. It is in the interest of all concerned to allow justice to take its course.”

The ICC just like the IDP issue in Kenya has become a political card that is played. No one is talking about IDPs now - its because the ones that were talking about them before really did not care about them but cared about the political weight that would make them be seen in a positive light or would make their opponents seen in a negative light. Let's face it - there is no political benefit of name dropping the ICC or IDP issue right now.

If (when) ICC cases fail
•Advantage – No sanctions/ consequences against Kenya which is good for the economy.
•Disadvantage – Kenya does not heal from the 07/08 PEV which is a big risk to the country.

have we bothered to ask the victims what they think about the process? the people to heal are the victims. what saddens me is that the victims voices have been drowned by the voices of people who watched the whole thing unfold on tv - statements like "Kenya will not heal" are patronizing statements from people who really never went through the trauma. can someone find out how the IDPs voted? did they abstain? did they vote for RAO? lets face it - we don't speak for them and when last they had an opportunity to speak on the subject matter to a naive subject one ms Bensouda, - they really let her have it!
