Kakua Meat Commission....

is officially a dead white elephant.......

the blend between commercial thought in the public sector...... especially in food.....

is a no-no.....

politics comes into play immediately........

with the Parliamentary vote and A-I-A....

appearing in the horizon as mirages of money-making ventures.....

we have now a calamity...

beyond words.....

the KMC can not turn away the politically correct lorries of carcasses......

tell me...

who in the other markets ...

will buy from the shelves anything with the label KMC and KeBS.......????

and yet the Botswana Meat Commission ..

is based on our model......

KMC ground has become a holoucast. Why do they buy the cows from the pastoralist and let them die such painful death? the field has no grass or even water? Some animals die in the lorries while waiting for 4 days to be offloaded. Am sure most of the dead cows could have survived the drought. Indeed the Ksh. 8ks per head is paid by tax payers,is it worth? Why buy and let them die. I thought the Govt can afford to hire ranches till rain comes. KMC is a white elephant, nothing has changed. Is the Min for Livestock aware of this?

the Botswana Meat Commission is run efficiently with no political interference....the cattle herders are encouraged to sell their cattle mostly after the rainy season as the country is almost a desert with very little rain...

in kenya the pastrolists do keep them cattle not as a commercial venture but prestige and usually wait until a drought strikes and that is when they start thinking of KMC.....the convernment may have had good intentions when it opened the KMC doors, but the politics are actually messing it up just like any other parastatal...

It is a pitty the government can afford to waste the taxpayers money on a white elephant project! The government should lay down plans to avert the crises at KMC.If the plant was efficient the meat could have been used as government aid to feed our brothers and sisters dying of hunger and the surplus could have being part of our exports. We cant talk of hunger while watching our animals die to lot on our soils. It is a shame to our leaders! Let them know that a government that can not feed its citizen is a fallen state! If Malawi government formulated policies that have addressed food crises why not us. We lack the goodwill to serve our citizens and politics is priotised.
