These guys need to work really hard! Kenya has A LOT of unrealized potential. For the sake of all Kenyans I hope policies and structures are put in place to aid in the realization of this potential. Kenya can be a very successful country. There is a lot on their plate:-
1) Manufacturing Sector - Why should I use toothpaste, soap, tooth picks etc. not made in Kenya. We EXPORT hundreds of thousands of jobs this way. Make it easy and cheap to manufacture and do business in Kenya! Start by looking into the cost of power.
2) Agriculture - Agricultural country importing everything from maize to oranges to eggs! My left foot! Make it cheap to farm in Kenya. Farm inputs and animal feeds are ridiculously expensive! And we are still importing fertilizer 50 years after independence?? Agricultural country?
3) Education - Free education is good but now we need QUALITY education. Let a kid in a public school in Mandera have the same quality of education as a kid in a private school in Nairobi - teachers (with set targets), books, labs etc.
4) Heath Care - Poor people die every day of diseases that rarely ever kill people with money. Under staffed public hospitals with no equipment or medicine. No through screening or treatment of patients,
5) Security - Totally related to the economy. Good security, good economy. Good economy, good security. We need highly trained elite squads and proper forensic labs. Kenyan police rarely ever preempt or solve a crime. Unless they are acting on a "tip-off" or catch in the act! That has to change.
6) Corruption - This brary thing eats into what percentage of our budget again? 30%? Deal with this thing once and for all and you have enough money for 1 - 5! And ensure corruption is not devolved to the county governments. Some of those governors are "suspects".
7) National Cohesion - This country is at it's worst in terms of National Cohesion. People are badly divided! We need Kenyaness back. This might be the cheapest [in terms of financial outlay] but the most difficult goal to achieve. It is also the most important. It will require the efforts of all of us but leadership is required from the top.
I personally want to see how this government will tackle these issues.
