Perhaps we need to ask ourselves - why we conduct voter registration to begin with. there various reasons (because as it is possible to have elections without registers as was the case in SA in 1994). but one of the reason that we have a register is for planning purposes (how many ballots, pens, stamps, marker pens per polling station).
however in our case its for both verifying voters on election day (based on our history) and for logistical planning.
The fact is this whole process was rushed - registration ended dec 18th. remember that there were BVR machines that crashed of course these BVRs were from regional machines. we need to understand that if a machine crashed and the data therein was lost and could not be recovered (as it may have happened). these voters could not be disenfranchised for 'technical' reasons. one of these guys is actually a governor right now but i digress. What should have happened to these people? should they have been rejected because - their data was lost for reasons that are not of their doing.
