I read that article you refer to weeks back. What comes out in this particular interview is that Jendayi Frazer sits on the Council of Foreign Relations. This organization advises the US Govt on foreign policy and I wonder whether the Obama Administration sought or even ignored their advice and consequently are now in a conundrum.

The US will come to its senses they are just waiting for think tanks to tell them best way forward just like what happened during the Arab spring "Asked at Monday's State Department press briefing whether the omission of Mr Kenyatta's name had been deliberate, spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said, "I wouldn't read too much into that statement." She noted that Prime Minister Raila Odinga has challenged the results, and she added "so that process obviously needs to move forward, and we’ll go from there." http://www.nation.co.ke/.../-/72d9p0z/-/index.html
Lets see if Bwana Pamba will accept the UN role he is being offered a soft landing and we'll go from there. In the meantime make hay/money while the sun shines

Interesting interview.... If anyone ever had any doubt that these countries are in it for their own benefit, this is for you. They will sing to whatever tune as long as it suits them..... Kenya is actually quite important to these countries for them to shun it. And the fact that China is playing a nice boy is worrying them to the bone! MK opened our eyes... he said east is also a cardinal point!

When compared, the assistant secretary for Africa, Johnnie Carson, is regarded as a seasoned professional, as is Earl Gast at USAID. Carson was "certainly a vast upgrade from Bush's assistant secretary for Africa, Jendayi Frazer. Frazer, a political appointee, all but left the bureau in smoking ruin, according to a highly critical Inspector General report issued shortly after she had left office."
