In the 2007 election Kikuyus largely supported PNU and Kalenjins largely supported ODM.

In January 2008 Mr Raila Odinga lost the election and refused to go to Court to contest the election result. He called for "mass action" instead and violence erupted across the country leading to the deaths of 1,300 people, maiming of many more and displacement of hundreds of thousands.

In 2013, Mr Raila Odinga lost the election again. He has now gone to Court. Zero deaths reported.
