liberty holdings

East and Southern Africa (outside of South Africa) generated profit of R69 million (2011: R21 million) for the reporting period. Investment
markets in the East Africa region contributed a high proportion of the increase in earnings

What was the contribution of CFCI to the R69 Million?

compare the 2011 fiqure of contribution i.e r21m and the eaning per share was 1.84 .we might get an eps of about 3.00.

The 1.84 eps was insurance biz only. Do u think insurance profits have grown that much this year? Thats what can give such an eps.

@Aguy, the 1.84 eps also included included "investment income" and "other income" which were a significant amount of KES 1.668B. Fair value changes on financial assets at FVTPL are passed through this two items. Not forgetting Profit on disposal of property and equipment is also passed through this items.

Am however not justifying @uchumi projections because there are so many variables that contributed to the r21m. Notice that Liberty Africa which contributed the r21m comprises of 2 regions - 6 countries {(1) Southern region = Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho and Namibia.
(2) Eastern region = Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.}

... Has CFCI issued a public notice on FY 12 profit like they did last year just before Liberty Holding released their FY 11 results. Last year, this public notice provided some guidance >>> www.nse.co.ke/media-cent...untary-trading-statement

@mwekezaji. Please counter check. Investment income for 2011 was a big loss. While insurance biz was a profit of over a billion and that's what gave 1.84eps.

@Aguy, have a look at the 5th and 7th items in the consolidated income statement

H1 2012 Results >>> Link

FY 2011 Results >>> Link

Notice there is a difference between the following:

1. Fair Value Through Profit or Loss (FVTPL)- This is what am referring to

2. Fair Value Through Other Comprehensive Income (FVTOCI)This is what you are referring to
