The GAP doesn't matter!!

The important magical figure is 5,884,544

Hit that and you are our next president without a run-off. It won't matter what the other guys get or how many are rejected!

HOW DO I GET THAT?

FACT: there are 14,352,545 voters

ASSUMPTION: the average 82% turnout will be maintained through out.

Therefore: 82% of 14,352,545 is 11,769,086.9 - this will be the total votes cast, including rejected votes.

50% of 11,769,086.9 is 5,884,543.45.

Constitution says winner must get "more than half of all the votes cast in the election" (I don't know where people got "50% plus one" from!!!)

Since fractional votes are not possible, we ROUND UP the 5,884,543.45 to get 5,884,544

Watch the tally and keep that magic number in mind.

@Mukiha funny way to look at it. You are ware that even the 82% is an approximation that could range between 81.51%-82.44%.

mathematically speaking, when dealing with the figure of 14,352,545 of regd voters, 0.000007% is a whole person! that would determine whether we have a run off or not.
Life is short. Live passionately.

They both mean the same. 50% plus 1 vote is much more precise n clear. It is the minimum by which one can win.

Suppose there are 9 votes cast

50% = 4.5
50% + 1 = 5.5
Rounding this to the nearest whole number gives 6

But; "more than half" simply means more than 4.5, which is 5.

Now do you see the difference?
