Have also heard about it. Some group in Gilgil are doing it commercially. I hear the demand for rabbit meat in major big hotels in Nairobi is so huge. The Gilgil group cannot satisfy it and are even afraid to market themselves aggresively.

A friend who lives in Limuru is doing it and she also told me the other day she cant meet her customer demands. Rabbit meat is so sweet and tender (if all you guys can remember way back in the village when we were boys! ). It also contain no animal fat for those who are colesteral averse.

1 Kg of rabbit cost ksh. 250. A mature rabbit weighs about 2.5Kg.They give birth 5-6 times a year with btn 10- 15 younglets per birth. A rabbit matures in 3 months.

Work out the arithmetics.

@Brav,

A friend is organising a visit to this Gilgil group (Karunga) somewhere in June.I'll get back to you with details once concluded.We can link at Gilgil town and proceed to Karunga.It's about 20 minutes drive along Gilgil- Nyahururu road.

Njung'e & Brav

Please share the information you get..We could start a joint veture on rabbit keeping...I mean ..the SK family..I know the capital outlay would not be that huge..say 10,000 for say 20 people may even be enough..with flexibility for further capital injection if the need arise..

@ gk You could buy commercial food (pellets) bought from pet shops.

Alternatively go vegeterian with sweet potato vines,carrots and cabbages,a delicacy recipe to rabbits.

Does any one support a joint venture in this farming if it turns out to be viable from Njunge and Brav 'feasibility studies'?
