True. There are too many MBAs ...I think a thousand or so graduate every year with all these new universities and all. There cant be enough senior or strategic management positions to accomodate all these graduates. Then in my field, which is highly technical, the hirers have learned to zero in on capability. High aptitude and ability to deliver are highly valued, this leaves many MBAs holders by the roadside as they get knocked off by a few tough questions. I have many pals who have them and they are not any further on the career path than I am.
I think generalizing, especially after studying a focused bachelor's is a mistake. It bestows dilute skills because it is spread too wide therefore too thin. You end up not doing or knowing anything well. Looking to the future, this is an economy that will start looking for people with very high skills in certain narrow expertise. Skate to where the puck will be, an ice hockey player, once said. Steve Jobs liked to repeat that quote. Do an MSc, M.Eng, MA Econ, something specialised and deep.
