It may be remembered from my previous sentiments on this forum that I am a supporter of Peter Kenneth's candidature for the office of the PORK. But if wishes were horses, beggars would ride. Now, when is the last time you heard that one?

No doubt, there are other people who support candidates whose chances of winning the next election are slimmer than Ajuma Nasenyana's waistline. Our days are numbered. There is coming a time when we will have to choose between, well, the usual suspects... and I will vote for Odinga.

In my book, both he and Kenyatta represent the status quo. So do their running mates. I find it hard to identify a clear winner when thinking about their ability to deliver political and socioeconomic results to the Kenyan citizen. And so I have elected to knock that criteria off my decision making process.

You're not left with much when you decide not to judge these guys on the basis of their potential to deliver. Tribe, maybe, but that is for fools. Still, I have found two reasons to vote for Raila.

2) A Raila presidency will likely speak to two important issues in the tribal sensibilities of this country. Firstly, it will satiate the Luos perennial curiosity of knowing "how it must feel like to be President". With one of their own in office and a life that hasn't changed much differently from that of, say, a Taita, the Luo villager in Akala will hopefully smack his lips and say to himself, "Alas!, No big deal after all.", and never again make his political decisions based on his tribal affiliation. Secondly, unless Raila does something profoundly stupid when president, his stewardship will demonstrate to the Kikuyu peasant in Mweiga that a "Luo President" is really just a "President" after all. No big deal there! In short, I hold that a Raila presidency has the potential to erode negative ethnicity in a big way.

1) The west has threatened us with sanctions if we elect Kenyatta. Not a good thing. You may say we do not need the west, that we can look to the East or even the South instead. I disagree. The very notion of isolating certain regions of the world because of their opinion on a matter admitted even by Uhuru himself to be PERSONAL in nature, is misguided. While there is no guarantee that these sanctions will indeed be effected, I see zero reason to take chances.
