An aspirant was forced to flee a hostile mob as chaos erupted at Kiserian in Ngong county on Saturday.

Wiper Senator candidate Solomon Kinyanjui drove through the fence to safety from irate youths who attacked him at the River Side hotel grounds. The youth wanted money from the aspirant. Journalists covering the function were also held hostage for hours. One of the journalists, a freelance camera man Peter Mungai lost his camera worth Sh80,000. Armed youth pelted the candidate with stones and also attempted to set ablaze his vehicle. Journalists fled after the youth wielding stones and crude weapons threatened them.

They blocked the hotel gate and threatened to set ablaze Solomon Kinyanjui’s double cabin pick up, forcing the aspirant who had earlier been blocked from entering a public service vehicle that had stopped by the hotel gate to drive his vehicle dangerously breaking through the fence.

“This is wrong, they wanted us to give them money, an act that could lead us to being banned from contesting the general election ‘’, said Mr Kinyanjui.
