Harrier (or is it Artur special!!!!!!!) When you say 'after much convincing he has agreed to repeat',I'm a littel worried! I did the same thing to my brother a few years ago and took him back to form 3. On first attempt he got C-,this time around a D+!!!!! If this guy came to you hat in hand and sorry about his mistake,probably that would be different. I've got a friend who is a senior principle of a Provincial school,we were charting a few weeks ago and he said 'Do not waste your money on a student who gets about 50% or less in the final exam (asking him/her to repeat),they will fail even more.' For someone with say 65% and wants to get 80 or 90%,definitely go for that and they will score it.' Not trying to dicsourage you but look at other options; he may join the police,the military,a technical college etc. Success is not only in books. Chief

@Harrier If he is willing to repeat,let him do it. However,if he has generally been poor in school,it wont be use repeating although it will make him more mature (which is a weak reason to get him to repeat). but if you strongly believe that he can do better than he did,and he is agreeable that he would improve if he repeated,let him do so. You will be surprised at how they handle school in such events..... I keep regretting why dint allow my bro to repeat.... infact,he confessed that if he had someone to ask him to repeat,he would have but he didnt feel like initiating the talk.... luckily for him,i got him into business and he is doing pretty well so far,thank God. That might even give you time to think of something for him to do should he not manage to join university. as for schools,depending on where your 'reserve' is,you could talk to provincial school head teachers and ask if they could give him a chance in their school. He doesnt have to go to private schools(if its going to be expensive). I know of a boy from home who repeated from one provincial school and he was taken to a neighbouring provincial school. all you need is to take time and talk with the HMs and as long as he is a discipline child,he will get a place... Get moving before it is too late........... Some deals are like glass. Sometimes it's better to leave them broken than try to hurt yourself putting it back together.

I am not into the repeating thing. The best advise so far is the one about reviewing his educational history. Have you 2 agreed on what he expects to achieve by repeating,how does he intend to improve his grades and can he achieve the goal. Education is good but lets be honest,its not for everyone,infact its not for the majority of people in kenya or the world for that matter. Knowledge is more important and does not necessarily have to come via the classroom. If he is serious,then i would suggest you sit him down and review a whole range of options including starting early on blue collar career options including farming micro-enterprises etc. which we all know pay equally as well as the white collar paper shuffling jobs we all chase. And a final word of caution,help him but don't let him become your burden,he may drag you down with him if thats the direction he has set himself on. I guess if you can't win with facts,you can always pen bile-laced,xenophobic rants to distract everyone.
