need your assistance!

Have a brother who finished form four last year who got very bad grade. After much convincing he has agreed to an option of repeating form 3 & 4. Need advise on good private school where he can be admitted which must have good performance record. any other option is encouraged.

...sasa ndio ataanguka kwa kishindo kikubwa zaidi. First find out why he failed. Measure his IQ. He could be a dunderhead. If you were good in class does not mean he should be as well. Take him to village polytechnic.

I have been there before. These folks just ain't serious. Instead of reading they resort to drugs and women ati kwa sababu brother yao ni mdosi. If you show them you are soft, they will exploit you mercilessly.

the critical thing with going back to school is usually the languages. will there be a change in the setbooks? this should be the primary factor and not the overal grades. the other thiong is what made him peform poorly? if these two are not considered then he is headed for the same grade.

A likely impossibility is always preferable to an unconvincing posibility.

Am quite disturbed how he will make it in life & not suffer. he doesn't have any option at stake. right now he is at reserve & is giving even mom headache. in reserve there full of empty brats whom may influence his life to worse. he seems a bit serious this round & can't be worried of risking ma coin to shape his life.

Harrier (or is it Artur special!!!!!!!)

When you say 'after much convincing he has agreed to repeat',I'm a littel worried! I did the same thing to my brother a few years ago and took him back to form 3. On first attempt he got C-,this time around a D+!!!!!

If this guy came to you hat in hand and sorry about his mistake, probably that would be different. I've got a friend who is a senior principle of a Provincial school,we were charting a few weeks ago and he said 'Do not waste your money on a student who gets about 50% or less in the final exam (asking him/her to repeat),they will fail even more.' For someone with say 65% and wants to get 80 or 90%,definitely go for that and they will score it.'

Not trying to dicsourage you but look at other options; he may join the police, the military,a technical college etc. Success is not only in books.

@Bareta

I've got a friend who repeated after getting a C- and went ahead and got himself an A-. Needless to say that he is now a doc. Me thinks that if the guy has the right attitude and he is not being forced to do it then its worth trying again.

If he is willing to repeat, let him do it. However,if he has generally been poor in school,it wont be use repeating although it will make him more mature (which is a weak reason to get him to repeat). but if you strongly believe that he can do better than he did,and he is agreeable that he would improve if he repeated, let him do so. You will be surprised at how they handle school in such events..... I keep regretting why dint allow my bro to repeat.... infact,he confessed that if he had someone to ask him to repeat,he would have but he didnt feel like initiating the talk.... luckily for him,i got him into business and he is doing pretty well so far, thank God. That might even give you time to think of something for him to do should he not manage to join university.

as for schools, depending on where your 'reserve' is,you could talk to provincial school head teachers and ask if they could give him a chance in their school. He doesnt have to go to private schools(if its going to be expensive). I know of a boy from home who repeated from one provincial school and he was taken to a neighbouring provincial school. all you need is to take time and talk with the HMs and as long as he is a discipline child,he will get a place... Get moving before it is too late...........

thanks wendz

i strongly believe in yr comment if he will not make then i'll put him in one of my business. U see education is only thing that is rightfully yrs & no one can claim it perhaps he chops off your damn head.
to me one & half year is very short if it can shape your life to best. the dude has accepted the fact that two years is a short tym & is more than willing to go back. want to research on few schools after which i will know the better option.

would feel great guys if u can advise on particular schools where can get help easily.

I am not into the repeating thing. The best advise so far is the one about reviewing his educational history.

Have you 2 agreed on what he expects to achieve by repeating, how does he intend to improve his grades and can he achieve the goal.

Education is good but lets be honest, its not for everyone, infact its not for the majority of people in kenya or the world for that matter. Knowledge is more important and does not necessarily have to come via the classroom.

If he is serious, then i would suggest you sit him down and review a whole range of options including starting early on blue collar career options including farming micro-enterprises etc. which we all know pay equally as well as the white collar paper shuffling jobs we all chase.

And a final word of caution, help him but don't let him become your burden,he may drag you down with him if thats the direction he has set himself on.

I guess if you can't win with facts, you can always pen bile-laced,xenophobic rants to distract everyone.

@RskTaker: I shudder when I imagine the doc failing in his first test!

@Harrier: Pondi and Magigi are very right! Find out why he failed! Were the exams hard? Why? Did he study? How did his classmates perform?

My cousin was forced by his mom to repeat KCPE in 1993! He sat for his first KCPE in 1992 and scored 293/700! My aunt insisted that he was bright but just refused to study! 1993 he got 292/700!

If you could let us know the area you are looking at,the kind of schools we would be of much help. e.g are you looking at government schools (provincial/district),private schools (what range of school fees?)

@harrier......you are better of donating the money you are planning to use on this brother of yours to charity.....turning a E into As.....hiyo hauwesmek!!! by the way did he do well in KCPE,if not dont waste your money,if yes take him to ASUMBI....he must have been taking somethings that he will continue taking until CORRECTED.
