In the 1990s and in 2002, they were on opposite sides, and vociferously so. In 2007, they were together again, praising each other’s statesmanship. In the 1980s, Moi and Kibaki were leading the government that was routinely locking up Raila Odinga. In the 1990s, Moi, Kibaki and Raila were all on different sides. Before 2002, Raila was with Moi against Kibaki. In 2002, Raila was with Kibaki against Moi and his chosen successor, Uhuru Kenyatta. In 2005 Raila led the constitutional referendum vote against Kibaki, with Moi’s support. In 2007, Raila was Kibaki’s main challenger for the presidency. Moi was on Kibaki’s side. If essential contact extends to withdrawing financial support to projects and programmes supporting the economic welfare of kenya and its future generations, then this is very serious and we need not trivialize it. I dont support imposition of a. candidate but the welfare of my country and my children should take priority over blind support for anyone. I am particularly worried about where we will get money to implement key vision 2030 and infrastructure projects if we severe our relations with the west. A few examples: The French, AFD, have heavily supported electricity generation such as olkaria geothermal projects benefiting hugely. They also support electricity transmission (ketraco) and distribution projects (kenya power) even financing low income communities to enable them connect to the grid. They are also involved in financing the ongoing expansion at JKIA and soon at Moi airport in Mombasa. I wonder where the projects will get funding from if these guys withdraw. The European UNion is also funding the expansion of the road network and several water and sanitation projects. What happens to these if they pull out?The Chinese will not fund these projects if a Chinese Contractor is not given the job, and we know what is happening to the subways and railways they are building in China. The European Investment Bank is one of the largest providers of long term funds to SMEs in Kenya which create thousands of jobs. If they stop funding such key engines of growth, because of stupid political decisions, who is to blame? The world bank pulled out of the Nairobi southern bypass financing due to their policy on who can receive their funding ( some crooks, with questionable reputation were to be part of the project ownership). With kenyans low economic development, high unemployment, we need all development partners to be able to achieve our vision objectives. How stupid will we be if come 5 March the shilling goes to 200 to the dollar, electricity, fuel and other basic commodity prices sky rocket? the water, roads, jobs situation worsens all because of voting two guys who are putting their interests before those of 44 million Kenyans?
