I have asked this for a long time and the answer that keeps popping up is this.. The day Kikuyus vote in large numbers (not necessarily majority) for someone other than one of their own... Then that will be a game changer.

and the same to all other tribes.

You are the problem. Why do you see someone as a Kikuyu first?
Life is short. Live passionately.

The day we will be bold enough to accept we have been tribal, is the day Kenya will have the giant leap.
Otherwise why is it a candidate is always expected to get more votes from their tribe?
WHY? Ukabila.

Go and vote whether you are voting for issues or tribesman. at end of the day there will be a winner and a loser and we will NEVER stop being Luo, Kikuyu, Luhya, Kamba, Kisii and all. What we need is tollerance such that if one person from a another tribe that has wronged you, you need to deal with the individual and not treat it as if it is the whole tribe that has done that. This is where tribalism starts - bulkanization.

First of all I agree with you tolerance and acceptance is the key. Just one thing I differ with slightly. Tribes teach culture to individuals and as such people from the same tribe will have similar cultural views and behaviours. Though not all.At some point I believe tribes clash because of culture and we don't have a strong national cultural identity that identifies with all Kenyans as individuals.
