The construction industry in Kenya is adopting, albeit slowly, new materials and technologies.

Today we share some of the top trends for developers and people with interest in the construction sector:

1.For new developments, create large spaces by removing walls and eliminating obstructions

2.Construct buildings that can be easily converted to commercial office space or residential homes. For example, when building a residential home, make sure the wall elements are non-structural to enable future demolitions. The same applies to other elements such as windows.

3. Install solar tiles or energy generating thin glass. This can be used for internal/external lighting and for water-heating purposes.

4. Use sustainable concrete

5. Apply paper-based insulation

6. Install super-efficient triple glazed windows

7.Move to hardwood and/or bamboo floors instead of traditional carpet flooring. They are sustainable, affordable and easy to maintain.

8.Transform areas into multi-function areas, for example open plan kitchen tops can be converted into dining/bar areas.
