Wood(posts) Treatment

Hi people. I plan to do fencing around some compound. Instead of buying the already treated posts from a hardware, i'd like to cut down a bluegum tree and split posts from it. In my past experience when i use the raw posts they rot/wear after 1-2 years. How can i treat the posts to last a very very long time?

Paka used engine oil. Don't know how long they 're supposed to last with that.

use engine oil then wrap polyethene paper round the submerged bottom to water proof it.

@a4architect.com and @For Sport, thanks for the suggestion. But i thought there is another 'scientific' method e.g the posts are immersed in some chemical for xx days, etc. I also need to treat the pieces that run across.
