Apparently,fraudsters have created a clone of Equity Bank’s website – complete with all the functionality such as checking account details – to take advantage of the bank’s growing success. The bank has won lots of coveted awards internationally including,Best Micro-finance bank in Africa,Euro money award among others.

Unfortunately for Equity Bank,the clone website (http://www.equitybanknig-plc.com) may appear real to unsuspecting ‘members’ because it looks exactly like the real Equity Bank website (http://equitybank.co.ke/) although the graphics on the clone appear odd. Only a keen eye can tell the difference or at least someone who already knows what the real website looks like. The information on the phishing site is also inaccurate.

Take care and inform others to be vigilant when using the bank's online service. Only use services from http://www.equitybank.co.ke.

To beat such fraudsters,I believe it is important for the tech and anyone else to share tips on internet security. I use two browsers i.e Internet Explorer and Google Chrome. Interestingly,When I use Internet explorer,I land safely on this phishing website. Google chrome however will not allow you to go straight to the website. Chrome will first alert you that this is a phishing website and give you an option of proceeding to the website or going back to safety. I have also noted that Google chrome will always alert you if you are diverted from your site of choice to another site. And by the way,I find it much faster to browse the web using Google chrome. I am not a tech guy but just sharing what I know.

Micro soft browser has this security feature too but sluggish. I am trying out OPERA TURBO. If you thought google chrome was fast,then you are in for a big suprise.
