I really do not understand the role of this office. Can someone please explain? Is it in the constitution? Can a man become a Women's rep? Just what is it'a purpose/role?

BBI will solve it

A county woman rep will be a member of the national assembly, it was a smart way of trying to achieve the gender balance in the national assembly, if you understand the role of an MP then that is it!!!

A very smart move to ensure a minimum of 47 female MPs, and ensuring they come from all the 47 counties. Genius.

I don't think it is a smart move.In parliament she still has 1 vote yet she was elected by a whole county e.g Shebesh despite the fact that she may get 1m votes as compared to a fellow MP who got 16k votes. Also the funds needed to campaign are massive and you end up getting an Mp's salary. That may be the reason why some women are not too eager for the post.

So, what would you have wanted? A women rep in every Ward?

It would have been better to have parties have additional nomination seats for the under-represented gender with a cap on the maximum nominees. On the brighter side, the National Assembly is the stronger of the 2 houses. I wonder why the big names in politics are going for toothless Senate seats while the action will remain in the National Assembly!

the issue is not the no. of members but the powers. Did you know that bills can originate from the NAssmbly concerning anything while the Senate can only start county related bills. Also budget making is under N.Assembly with the senate being only in charge of county allocation.
