qualifications are not that important in securing a top notch job ANYWHERE not just in kenya.. Ability is what matters. Remember Collymore was a Vodafone Group Corporate Affairs Director in UK, Governance Director for the Africa Vodafone group and Purchasing Director in Vodafone UK long before he got the lowly CEO position in Kenya.

Kichwa,you cannot compare a diploma to a degree.take the degree.take the medical field for example.in as much as clinical officers are important,we still need doctors same applies to advocates,engineers,architects,teachers,economists,etc.

a degree is important in opening up your mind.it also gives you a competitve edge over dip holder when looking for a job.knowing people and luck (God's favor) also play a significant role in your career ladder.
a friend who has over 20 yrs of exp missed a prestigious job 2 months ago becos of lack of degree in his field. his other final competitor was a graduate.

if you can get the papers while young do so instead of waiting for regrets 20 yrs later

elaborate more on what you engage in for your income, did you inherit some handsome amount of cash, are in business are employed, if so which field are you in, and what are your future aspirations.

That will provide some good info for better advice.

It's not about the papers.

Nothing makes you feel better than getting your O levels, a degree, next your masters and then your phd. I would advocate for everyone to do that. In one condition.

Don't get these papers for the sake of getting papers.

Life is about learning and implementing what you have learned.

That is why a guy with no education can start a business and succeed. Another guy gets a masters but can't get his butt out of his desk.

Learning and implementing is essential for success. Getting a degree is useless. Implementing what you learned getting a degree is what the human race expects of you.

Diploma holders tend to develop sharper technical competencies in their study areas than degree holders. People with degrees plus a professional or post-grad cert will tell you the professional or post-grad certs are what actually gets them to an interview and finally to the job. In fact, the trend is that those who are engaged in some community of practice or have attended powerful conferences within or outside the country qualify better and get the job done. But why is there a problem with degrees in Kenya? it is the quality of those graduates. Most of them cant even articulate anything in straight and good english. All they can do is sing all the subjects covered in the lecture rooms.

A technician knows how to tighten a nut while an engineer knows why the nut is tightened by the given amount and not more and not less.

If you employ a engineer and expect her to be tightening nuts all day, you will fail.

If you employ a technician and expect him to design nut tightening systems, you will also fail.

The bigger problem we face is that many employers don't actually know the difference between the two cadres of employees.
