The average voter (the poor) will determine your leader & nothing much will change in their lives. If you were living in Kibera,Mathare & Dandora you will continue living there.
The middle class (Wazuans & white collar fellows) will be left bearing the consequences. These are people who have investments, universities to attend, stocks to watch etc.

Things will change the day the middle class takes the duty to vote & change this country seriously.
Formally employed people often live their employers' dream & forget about their own.

So what we are saying here is there are essentially two Kenyas, one for the average voter and one for the voter who has something to lose.

Unfortunately the average ones are more in numbers...hence you can be guaranteed a useless MP or President who does not appeal to you in any way. But he/she appeals to the average broke guy on the ground.

Firstly, pls leave your tribal affiliations at the door. This is purely logical.

In these elections, there can only be 1 outcome. Either:

1. Raila wins. He becomes President. Him and his cronies steal from Kenyans.
or
2. Uhuru wins. He becomes President. Him and his cronies steal from Kenyans.

Logically, either winner is bad for Kenya.

Your logic holds a lot of water. But better the lesser evil.
Compare Moi and Kibaki's rein. Corruption was the order of the day in both regimes. But there is no comparison between Moi and kibaki. Infact Moi neer did a thing. look at what our beloved President has been able to do even though surrounded by all these cronies.

Very little separates these two. It all depends on the color of glasses you view them through. Second best is always a deception.

That is the definition of a first world country...where there are more people who have something to lose compared to those who have nothing to lose.

The only way out of such is to have a China style Kind of election where a small group of straight thinking proffessionals come together to publicly vet and give us a suitable leader. This business of involving 'average voters' who have no idea of what's good for kenya is not working. These are the same people who cry 'naomba serikali' when things get thick.

Given this is a dream, iam glad the new constitution tries to address some of these issues.

China is a terrible country where one is measured by the speed with which they are able to keep the factory line moving or how fast they can stack export boxes on to ships. there is nothing admirable about the country.

I am actually ok with the average voter exercising their right to choose their leader because at the end of day, they choose from a pool of leaders that are knowledgeable and certainly not average.

Average voters ensured Obama won the US presidency, if it were a china style election, then i think they would have settled for Donald Rumsfeld or Dick Cheney.
