THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MWAI KIBAKI AND RAILA ODINGA

Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga are the two principals in our Coalition Government that was cobbled together with thin cement after the 2007 disputed polls. Next year, Kibaki will go home but Raila will remain behind in another attempt to become president. Let us juxtapose the political ways of these two principals. In 1963, Mwai Kibaki was elected MP for Doonholm, the present day Makadara. His supporters did not kill any of his opponents. In 1992, Raila Odinga was elected MP for Langata. His supporters killed at least one supporter of Kimani Rugendo who was his main challenger and maimed many others. The dead man was called George Muhando, a Luo married to a Tanzanian who was killed for exercising his constitutional right to support and vote for a candidate of his choice. During his tenure as leader of the Democratic Party, Mwai Kibaki was engaged in a tense power struggle with Ngengi Muigai who wanted to oust him from the chair of DP. Nobody was killed. After Odinga died in 1994, Raila attempted to grab the chair of Ford-Kenya from Kijana Wamalwa who had succeeded Odinga. Raila's supporters maimed and injured scores of Wamalwa's supporters at All Saints Cathedral, they actually murdered one supporter of Wamalwa in broad daylight within the Holy precints of God's own house! After Kibaki left KANU, he never went back. Odinga senior went back to co-operate with Moi while his son Raila entered into a merger with KANU. During Kibaki's tenure in Doonholm which was later named Bahati and which lasted until 1974 when he relocated to Othaya, there were no tribal clashes in the Constituency. On the other hand, Langata has been the main theater of epic tribal clashes since Raila's tenure began there in 1992. There have been deadly clashes between Raila's Luo supporters and Nubians. They have also fought Kikuyus most of whom have been robbed of property. These clashes have killed scores including the prominent Nubian leader Ratib Hussein whose property was gutted before being forced into exile in Dar-es-Salaam where he died like a Dog. In 2007, Raila's ODM candidate in Othaya was allowed to conduct his campaigns against Kibaki peacefully but in Langata where Raila was defending his seat, a young man wearing a PNU T-shirt was killed in broad daylight. In South Nyanza some PNU civic candidates were driven into exile in the neighbouring Tanzania by violent mobs whose intent was to kill. Many homes of PNU supporters in Luoland real or percieved were torched before the polls. When Kibaki's adviser, John Githongo wrote a book pilloring Kibaki and his Government, no demonstrations were held against Githongo. The man is around minding his own business. When Raila's adviser Miguna Miguna wrote a book about the rot in the Prime Minister's office, hell broke loose. You all know what happened. In 1992 and 1997, Mwai Kibaki lost elections to KANU. In 1992, he joined fellow contestants to complain in a civil manner but in 1997 he did more than just complain. He went to court and after hitting the wall, he let matters to rest there and took his poisition as leader of opposition. He did not see the need to forment mayhem counrywide. Here was a young man who knew that Kenya was bigger than his own presidential ambitions and that if it was ordained by the gods that one would become president mortals could only delay the appointment but not cancel it. It came to pass and Kibaki became president in 2002. In 2007, Raila lost to Kibaki. He cried foul and we all know what happened. These are the contrasts, contrast of the good and the ugly. As the good goes into retirement, the ugly should be discarded into the thrash can of history. We are not talking about a tribe but one individual and his frightening political ways. A man whose supporters once murdered a policeman who was out of duty in broad dalight at the Central Park behind behind Serena Hotel. The man was called Baraza.

Fair enough, though most of the acts appear to be perpetrated by wayward supporters. Now, lets get a fair one between Raira n the son of jomo.

The difference between Supporters of Kibaki and Raila. Now lets do a comparison between the two
If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.

It is good you have brought this up.Uhuru was in Amherst College where he pursued Business Administration, which has consistently been ranked top 20 in the USA,Mudavadi was at THE where he pursued Land Economics,as for Raila he is alleged to have studied engineering in a German polytechnic and the matter was a subject of a court case which was thrown out on technicalties.I think he is more at home with vitendawili than physics or maths. When you say he was an assistant lecturer,do you know any of his former students? His thesis at Masters level?Any engineering project done so far?Is he a civil or mechanical engineer or both? Please clarify.
