Wazuans,
I read the below article on yahoo finance and thought, after all, Kenyans are not super crazy in their insatiable demand for land:

http://finance.yahoo.com...-america-172834939.html

The only difference between the Kenyan land owners and their US counterparts could be in the use they put their land holdings into. In the US, "the key driver for land buying is production - whether it's producing crops or timber or beef."

I think owning a big piece and practicing organized production (one not dependent on the free rain) as opposed to speculating (Kenyan style) will pay off in the future because of 4 reasons:
1. Kenyan population is ever increasing - i hear the estimate is 77m in 2030! OMG, who will feed these people?;
2. Rural urban migration - leads to a great loss of the farming community;
3. Rise of the middle income status ('the working class') who do not like production; and
4. Recent loss of arable land to real estate

What says you?
...When they count the men who built Kenya, will you be in the list? I choose to go long term....

Great topic this is. I have in mind Laikipia county (The Kenyan Texas) where a few local land barons & whites own huge tracks of land which are underutilised...what a potential here!!!!
I think with the coming of the county governments,these absentie landlords will have to make use of their land or risk levies. I see this happening as county governments will be looking for ways and means to stay afloat!
Large scale farming,if done professionally & with the right policies,and maybe even subsidies from the government can create some Great wealth and contribute to the country's food security!
