Messi continues with the goal scoring record...scoring two more in the 2 nil Copa Del rey win over Cordoba...he's now at 88 in a calendar year, won't bet against him reaching a nicely rounded figure of 90 that will probably never be eclipsed in our lifetime

Ati hype the guy has actually scored 88 goals so far. Btw how exactly do they get more money by hyping up Messi? Gerd Muller's record stood for 40 years, how come it has never been disputed? Can they actually prove that Zico and the Zambian scored more goals than him, any video evidence? Messi's goals have all been scored in matches fully recognized by FIFA/UEFA, how about those other two players?

Zico's record is 89, Messi is currently on 88. So by weekend that will be gone.

Same wonder here.
Could it be Messi haters fanning all this? For 40 years they held their peace only to speak NOW?

for 40 years nobody hyped muller for holding the record, if a zambian has scored more goals don't you think he deserves the recognition, but wait nobody knows about him and if recognized the whole messi goal thing will take a back seat.

fifa gets much of its cash through adds - the more people talk about football the more they can price their adds.
brazil 2014 will be all about messi, if argentina makes it and believe me that will influence the cost of adds, tv rights and ticket prices.

thats what the zambians are doing forwarding evidence of the goals scored, and for your information the zambian league is identified by fifa and caf - and vedio evidence is not even accepted in soccer, the refs notes are what is followed.
The reason the dispute is coming in is because of the hype that has been created, there you go, i said it again, its all hype

@Nakujua.....First of all FIFA gets most of its funding through sponsorship deals, football is the most popular sport in the World so they really don't need Messi to get the deals done. Btw its the Media who are 'hyping up" Messi and not FIFA. On the issue of the Zambian record, how do you expect the World to recognize a record which has only been seen in Zambia. Hata CAF were not aware of such a record. Besides they themselves are not even sure of how many goals were scored, "they've commissioned an independent team to go back into the archives and record minute-by-minute each of those goals then calculate all of those goals". I don't think they'll achieve much with that because i don't believe in 1972 Zambia had the resources to record each game. I'm also yet to establish the purpose of all this, Messi is clearly better than the Zambian and scored goals against tougher opposition.....why bring up this issue of goals tally just when he has 2 games to go? You don't need to hype Messi, he's just great.

@nakujua, Clarify the part in red.
Video evidence is used extensively in football especially matters missed by the ref or incident in contention, apart from goals.
All the Messi stories are not hype, you just can't ignore the guy if you love football.

video evidence is not accepted when it comes to issues to do with scoring goals - instead they rely on the refs notes - thats why there is a push to introduce video technology in soccer.
of course you can not ignore the guy, just as you could not ignore Ronaldinho or the Ronaldo from brazil.
I am not ignoring the guy, he is as good as they come from that part of the world, but my point is that there is just too much hype around Messi - you almost get the feeling some people are really pushing it very hard

fifa does not need messi to get the deals, but a hyped up Messi means they can get even better deals from sponsors competing for the few slots, when there is more talk of soccer demand goes up.
Messi scoring goals aganist tougher opposition is relative, we could say he has the best supporting cast in the world, or he has undue advantage due to the growth hormones issue, or he has personalized therapy team that keeps him on top, and many more, my point is comparing opposition from different ages is virtually impossible.
he is the best attacking midfielder currently, is he a great ? that's another debate altogether

Messi never scores a single goal in games. Another 2 vs A. Madrid.
Zico's record gone, now 90 goals for the year.

90 goals...nuff said.

For Barca to lose 3 games while Athletico keep winning will take nothing short of a small miracle...

Mblo, Messi is not an attacking midfielder. He is a forward.

Best ever La Liga start for Barca. 15 wins and one draw from 16 matches. Does it mean Tito is a better coach than Pep? Ama tungoje two years?
