Skerian i need ur input on an issue regarding purchasing of a vehicle.

I conducted a search at KRA for a car that am intending to buy and even though the car has been transferred to 3 people already the search results indicated the first owner as still ownening the vehicle.

The guy selling me tha car has got the logbook in his name and the other details of the vehicle match he even showed me the receipt for the transfer charges.

What am wondering if is it possible for car to change ownership thrice with the parties getting their names in their respective logbook after the transfer process and yet if one does a search at the kra only the first owner of the vehicle is appearing or is there something fishy going on. by the way this was done in july last year!

if the person selling it to you can produce the PIN,transfer form signed by the REGISTERED owner - then you can proceed to transfer it in your name (but will also need to undertake the other two transfers as well - which means you need the ID,PIN and transfer forms from the other two parties - plus the fee unless you want to pay for it).
I assume you refer to the good old logbook made of cardboard - if the 2nd and 3rd name are already written in it,and seemingly stamped by KRA and KRA still says its the first name that is the registered owner - walk the other way as fast as your feet can take you - better still, involve KRA in the issue since its likely either the rubber stamps or the log book are forged. There have been some people involved in fake 'transfers' on original log books. They pocket the fees and give you back what looks like a genuine transfer....

Pls can you indicate the car make and last part of registration plate? e.g. Datsun 1200 342R or Citroen 675X,etc....or the old numbers ....I once lost a logbook to a con agent and I am still looking for him to break his balls. if you can tell me the MV make and last digits....

Thanks fot the input guys

The guy am buying the car from (third owner) has the logbook in his name and its the new generation one and it actually indicates the number of previous owners as two. he also showed me a photocopy of the logbook of the second owner lakini hana ya the first owner. However when i do search at kra using the car registration am getting the first owner as being the current owner! ( i would like to assume that tkra has one database and since all this info i computer generated then why the conflicting information.)

Djinn the car is Toyota 344k

SIMONKABZ If the car is not in your name then how do u legally proof that u actually own it

@Mburuke - thanks. No,thats not mine. I'd be even more worried since its a Toyota - pls cross check engine/chassis number in the book against the actual on the engine block or body. Look for tell tale signs of colour changes - esp in the engine bay or under carriage...but it sounds fishy to me. You can quietly go to KRA and indicate what you have told us - it usually takes them a few minutes to locate the actual file with all previous owners details. And on the computer system, they can validate that transfer receipt. You should remember our 'printers' are very very good...in fact I think I need to buy a PhD degree for this job I want to apply for ...

The onus is on the seller to proof he has clean docs. Let the owner clean his house before u get sniffing man! There will always be a better car, better price, less worry.
