Kenyans in the diaspora do not have a right to vote while outside the country. The right to vote should be for tax paying kenyans. Remittance they send back, which is appreciated by many, is for there family and is not tax. Diasporans should either fly into Kenya if they so feel inclined to vote.
Kenyans in the diaspora might not be well informed on kenyan politics. I appreciate that there are many who are well informed and participate a lot in kenyan issue but majority are not. This is group that can be easily swayed to make uninformed decisions.
Kenyans in the diaspora will not suffer directly from the decisions they make. All politics is local. The right to vote should be for Kenyans who will live with there poor choice in councillors and MPigs.
Voters register of diaporans will be manipulated. Kenyan in the diaspora are asking for too much.
Its the right of every Kenyan to vote! Period. I have had the misfortune of being called a diaspora in the past. The feeling that those abroad are having all the fun out there without suffering is not fun. You work three jobs,Break your back at a Fedex, Mellon, Giant Eagle or MacDonalds facility, remit all locally, pay withholding and all other taxes and then you are considered a foreigner? (Just because some fool thinks you are sweeping money off the streets of Pittsburgh or Dallas). The future belongs to all of us since we all have a stake in the country. A diaspora who pays tax perhaps has more rights to vote than Jamleck Kamau or Eunice Wamalwa who are evading tax payment through technicalities! Put systems in place and no one will manipulate the voting process let alone the diaspora vote. Americans even have early voting and this does not compromise the integrity of the whole process. Its called respect of the RULE OF LAW!
