I thought if you are in the diaspora you can vote as long as you register at the embassy, then you would go and vote at the Embassy. If you are in the states you have to go to either New York DC or LA to vote, I thought this was already passed, so whats the talk of people being blocked from voting?

Kenyans in the diaspora do not have a right to vote while outside the country. The right to vote should be for tax paying kenyans. Remittance they send back, which is appreciated by many, is for there family and is not tax. Diasporans should either fly into Kenya if they so feel inclined to vote.
Kenyans in the diaspora might not be well informed on kenyan politics. I appreciate that there are many who are well informed and participate a lot in kenyan issue but majority are not. This is group that can be easily swayed to make uninformed decisions.
Kenyans in the diaspora will not suffer directly from the decisions they make. All politics is local. The right to vote should be for Kenyans who will live with there poor choice in councillors and MPigs.
Voters register of diaporans will be manipulated. Kenyan in the diaspora are asking for too much.

@tony shark This must be the most ignorant comment i have seen in a long time.Am glad that most in the political class don't think like you otherwise we would all be doomed.Am very surprised to to see such a comment from someone who can actually access the internet and seek information or facts before writing on a forum like wazua.

Its the right of every Kenyan to vote! Period. I have had the misfortune of being called a diaspora in the past. The feeling that those abroad are having all the fun out there without suffering is not fun. You work three jobs,Break your back at a Fedex, Mellon, Giant Eagle or MacDonalds facility, remit all locally, pay withholding and all other taxes and then you are considered a foreigner? (Just because some fool thinks you are sweeping money off the streets of Pittsburgh or Dallas). The future belongs to all of us since we all have a stake in the country. A diaspora who pays tax perhaps has more rights to vote than Jamleck Kamau or Eunice Wamalwa who are evading tax payment through technicalities! Put systems in place and no one will manipulate the voting process let alone the diaspora vote. Americans even have early voting and this does not compromise the integrity of the whole process. Its called respect of the RULE OF LAW!

Kenyans abroad have always had voting rights.if they want to vote they can always fly back, register as voters fly back and then come back and vote.think of the many countries where kenyans live e.g uganda, morocco, licheinstein, european union, russia etc.it would be a nightmare organizing the elections.btw, the diasporans send the remittances to their families not treasury and if they want to peg that on their quest to vote they can stop and their families will feel the pinch most.

'Kenyans in the diaspora' means full citizens who are outside of Kenya.

The vote is a citizen's right. Therefore the people living in diaspora have this right.

The problem seems to be on how these rights can be effected, and what it means, not to effect them. And also, how responsibilities are apportioned between the government and the people living in the diaspora.

These problems are then best resolved if there is a will to uphold citizen's rights. And as the saying goes, 'where there is a will, there's a way'.

I think any individual in the disapora who claims to be a Kenyan but has never stepped foot in Kenya in more than 10 years should not be allowed to vote.
