I say roundabouts are better than crosses....
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

Cross junctions don't work here in Kenya. Not with matatus that respect no man or laws. Look at a useless one like the Gitanga, Kingara, James Gichuru roads; total nightmare. For it to work you need working traffic lights, cctv cameras and a few rotten drivers thrown in jail ili iwe funzo otherwise the way to go is those expensive fly-overs as I hate these pre-historic roundabouts with a passion.

BBI will solve it

Both should be confined in rural areas.....under and overpass for urban.

cross junctions can't work in a failed traffic system as ours. Classic example is the Pangani police one. Chaos!

Ditto.

@mukiha, that was a lazy post! Very very shallow. I would want to assume you've taken account at the number of vehicles, people population, layout of the city, environmental factors, the level of population thinking, future growth prospects et al, no?

@mukiha,Then i think the title should read "Kenyan Roundabouts or Cross Junctions.

Mine on the other thread was based on a system that works, where drivers obey traffic rules n lights. In such a scenario, Cross Junction beats Roundabouts hands down.
There is no time lost negotiating unnecessary semi circles or 3/4 of a circle. If you open both sides of Uhuru highway [from Haile n from University] holding those turning right, one can drive through that nyayo house junction at 80kph,but can you do the same with the roundabout?
When opening for those turning right, with a cross junction, you just turn,no going round.

...i agree with you cross junctions are much better, faster, the probability of u gtn hit or hitting another vehicle is most certainly reduced,if we were a tad bit disciplined they can work extremely well...problem is we forgot our manners elsewhere...

I realised that the Syokimau thread was digressing towards this side so I offered to start a new thread on this subject.... REF: http://www.wazua.co.ke/f...21327&p=5#post336561

And for the guys shouting that there ar no roundabouts in the developed world it looks like they are just warming up. They are just beginning to use them.
