In 2000/1 Kenya-Re (a public asset) was almost sold to Zim-Re (of Zimbabwe) and Monarch Insurance (of Kenya owned by a "prominent" son) for less than one-third (800M/=) its value (2.5B/= in 2001).

Who halted the sale?

After the Parliamentary Investment Committee (PIC) failed to stop the sale on procedural grounds, three MPs filed a successful court injunction blocking the sale: Prof. Anyang Nyongo, Wafula Wamunyinyi and Musikari Kombo.

The disposal of these Kenyan
public assets was riddled
with overt corruption mainly
through gross undervaluing of
the entities. Coincidentally, at
the epicenter of the
privatization exercise in the
late 90s, early 2000s was
Nicholas Biwott’s daughter,
Ms. Esther Koimett, the then
and still current Investment
Secretary -whom Kibaki
found prudent to serve as
Kenya’s new Investment
Secretary thanks to his
renewed political dalliance
with Nicholas Biwott.
In 2000/1 Esther Koimet
almost facilitated the sale of
Kenya-Re ( a public asset) to
Zim-Re (of Zimbabwe ) in
partnership with Monarch
Insurance (owned by Gideon
Moi) for less than one-third
it's value. Gideon Moi and his
shielders Zim-Re of
Zimbabwe almost bought
the entire Kenya-Re for 800
million shillings when it was
valued at more than 2.5
billion shillings in 2001.
Who halted the sale? After
the Parliamentary Investment
Committee (PIC) failed to
stop the sale on procedural
grounds, three MPs filed a
successful court injunction
blocking the sale: Prof.
Anyang Nyongo, Wafula
Wamunyinyi and Musikari
Kombo. The ruling was made
by Justice Hayanga.http://

News/Dail...usiness65.html
Thanks to the three MPs, we
were luckily to have survived
the transfer of Kenya Re into
the hands of Gideon Moi in
exchange of ten pieces of
silver.

In that case, the title of the thread is rather hopelessly farfetched. Everybody knows what went on during the great Moi error. Everything public was for sale by the govt to who was who then. PK was just the figurehead, an employee of a parastatal owned by the moi govt, who actually turned round the institution-I stand to be corrected. Look for another one friend.

The cleanest presidential candidate is Uhuru Kenyatta. I have never heard a corrupt deal he has been involved in. All his wealth has been acquired in the most transparent and legitimate way, inheritance. All the rest are hustlers who have had to squeeze a deal here, a deal there to get ahead.

This Mr. clean guy had a very long and we may speculate a financially and politically uplifting relationship with the member for Aldai at a time when wao walikuwa wenyenchi. Mkiona vyaelea, vimeundwa.

Its important that all the past involvements of any candidate are pulled out esp on matters regarding character for all to know where they have come from, while at it someone check another insurance company that he ever worked in that went down and his connection to its demise. Anyone with a dossier on Mama flower?

You should by now know that an MD at that time or this time has no say on the sale of a public (government) corporation. Th MD is an employee of the corporation and not an owner and may not even be consulted. When govt. decides to privatise the parastatals they want only parliament and judiciary can intercede.

BBI will solve it
