You first need a good fan base to attract sponsors. Remember sponsors are after their own selfish ends first and foremost. So let's keep the game up, the fans, sponsors and big pay days for players will follow.

All the same I think our gratitude should go to Supersports. Without them, this game would have been played by big stomached players in small boardrooms and offices.

I think its difficult to get a good fan base if you are not successful on the pitch.....Gor and AFC had it easier because of their history. If we get more sponsors involved in club football, we'll be able to retain our top players and also attract quality players such as Serunkuma. Our league should be the best in East and Central Africa. This we'll be able to perform well in the CAF Champions League. Some of the clubs we have in the league rely on the Supersport sponsorship for survival. Oserian were once the best team in the league but collapsed when their sponsorship was withdrawn.

Corporate teams like KCB and Tusker will never build a fan base. Tusker has been around for 4 decades and won many trophies yet has no fans. To put it simply , the public cannot relate to corporate teams. Especially if they are based in Nairobi.

KPL will grow when community teams like Nakuru All Stars, Kisumu Lakeside and Shabana make it back to the league. These are the teams that have potential to pull crowds.

As for Tusker and KCB, they should follow what Safaricom and Mumias Sugar have done. Instead of playing in the league, they should focus on sponsoring grassroots tournaments.
