At Ksh 9.6b the cost of each of the 15000 units has tripled to ksh 640k. Some serious corruption must be going here. And it's we the taxpayers who will bear this burden. Why is the Canadian govt so quiet on this issue?

dont blame the gava, just look back at all tenders won by a french based company. After they sign the deal the cost tripples. Can you imagine what guys are going through paying telkoms kenya costs after it was acquired by the french guys. It has always been too expensive dealing with french and i dont know why some guys calling themselves fighters are keeping quiet.

The thing is just a laptop computer connected to a small fingerprint scanner, all housed in some weatherproof portable case. I don't think it should cost anything beyond 50k. Infact these kits could have been easily assembled by a local company.

Why not just use the "mlolongo" system and spare the cash! Our democracy seems to be too expensive and the end results are always wanting. China, has just unveiled a new premier in waiting with no "BVRs" involved. A committee of some wise men just met and rotated the premiership with no one shouting "Haki Yetu". No wonder they have cash to spare and do Roads in far flung places like Kenya

Its a laptop, a fingerprint scanner, eye scanner, 10GB portable memory, two energizer power packs, miniature printer and a black plastic casing.

Should cost more than Kes. 75K,especially now that China mass-produces anything.

The suppliers are just reacting to the fact that there's increased demand for their goods.

As for government, it will happily oblige for it is the deal maker.

What can Wanjiku do? Lay ambush for the politician during the campaign period and see if she can get a piece of the booty. Otherwise, she will wail in vain and not even voting in 'progressive leaders' will help!

Impunity,if we are to go by your figure of 75k then some people have made serious money in this.kweli there is money in government supplies.640k is 8 times the cost with 40k per kit for facilitation of government officials.

...surely at times its too painful to talk about certain things, that kind of cash could have gone a long way into helping some of our brothers and sisters kuna watu wanalala njaa wajameni,we hv our priorities misplaced...
