A 5-6bob rise is less than 5% rise...

At 115bob we may still be lower than this time last year! So it might still reflect a decline in the inflation rate..

And in any case a 5% rise in fuel will probably lead to a 1.5% rise in inflation if all others stay constant...

So are happy with these latest increase in fuel prices, you @guru267?
d'oh!

@Impunity if @guru267 had control over global oil price trends then you'd be in a place to ask such a.....question.

@ guru...nothing will stay constant! you are forgeting one thing...that any increase in energy/fuel will send a ripple effect upon other commodities too.

The 1.5% rise in inflation is probably the part contributed by the fuel alone...Wait until the electricity, transportation and commodity prices go up and the story will be different, at least from Kenyan experience...

@impunity @maka @Kaigangio, you need Economics 101. While on inflation, understand what 'a basket of goods' is all about

In the mean time, read, "Inflation rate to dip below 5pc, say analysts", link

Then we could be in line for another CBR cut, albeit more modest than the 350 bps we saw last time...

do the price changes really have a big affect, apart from the rise in pump prices and electricity cost doing up - I have not yet seen matatus raising fare because of the increase, or a plate of chips going up because the cost of transporting the potatoes went slightly up.

Its just a few big people/businesses who benefit from the increase

most of the prices you see in the market( fare, chips, transport ya potato...etc) were set when the price of fuel per litre was at the pick( ksh 121 per ltre)... so , its boom business untill we get back to the pick...and if we get a new pick, then , new prices....

USD/KES @88/- is the line in the sand. Once that level is breached, inflation will pop up. So I expect CBK to guard that USD rate with whatever tools they have.
$15/barrel oil... The commodities lehman moment arrives as well as Sovereign debt volcano!

Forget about those books sir...What i know as a layman is that whenever the fuel price goes up everything else that depends on it goes up...the margin is irrelevant...

People have forgotten that these prices are arrived at after a very comprehensive calculation using the formula that was discussed at great length between the regulator, the suppliers, the major consumers and the general public...

The prices are not determined by lobbying.

Do you @ chiaroscuro think that the formular is always applicable...

I now think the ERC apply that formular only in January and not any other month of the year...the reason: See here...
