It will be of no value. The Kenyan voter doesn't vote based on issue. We vote on ethnic and parties owned by these ethnic personalities.

BBI will solve it

Why waste time on debates instead of seeking ethnic alliances and meeting the voters?Even if the likes of kamenchu,pk,karua perform exceptionally well in the debate they will go nowhere unless they join the big boys of kenyan politics in an alliance.

Let me be the first to be optimistic and say it's a good move. I would rather watch the candidate blabber on a debate than watch him/her promise to insure cows/tea/or miraa to an excited crowd somewhere. However let them schedule 2 candidates per interview for substance value.

So i say bring it on

13 candidates debating 10 issues in 2 hours....

Is that a debate or a farce?

That's more like an introduction. It's more like the media posturing here. Let the have max. 3 candidates per session otherwise they screen La mujer dimifiba we are used to.

It might be a question is asked and all the participants recite their answers for viewers.

I would like where a participant accuses another e.g. of tribalism. That might not be possible.

Therein lies my beef. Practically issues cannot be exhausted if a question is asked and 13 people answer it.

We all know that all the 13 candidates are not serious contenders, some are just seeking mileage for political alliances.

So the whole thing then becomes a farce from the beginning.

However, I'd not mind hearing the rhetoric that would be spewed in such a forum

You can be sure most of the serious candidates will not turn up for the time wasting exercise. The debate will be dominated by the fringe candidates who despite knowing that they will go nowhere in the race are determined to waste taxpayers money filing space on the ballot paper.Let us have the 2 horses and at most 2 donkeys in the race.

This is an excellent idea, although its true Kenyans vote along ethnic lines, it gives an opportunity for those who care for this country to listen to the debate and vote candidates based on how they propose to solve the many problems afflicting the country. We have to start somewhere and this is a step in the right directionApplause . The organisers will however need to have adequate security in the debate room, some of the candidates could easily turn violent as they are not known to tolerate criticism otherwise you will have headlines like, “Raila punches Kalonzo in election dabate”.
As long as you're going to be thinking anyway, think big
