I can't remember the pasword I used for my email so I have no access to your mails. I will open another one and email it to you for I fear publishing it here again since spam collectors pick email addresses and phone numbers quoted in these messages.

The future is already here!

the way I see it,SK is growing far beyond its primary role,INVESTMENT FORUM and that is great.

This is a worthy course and am in full support of it. Count me in.

Thank you is the word I would like to start with to all Skerians.

I know all of you participated In one way or another to make this day a success; financially and through prayers.

We managed to participate in both events to day .

We started with shopping at Nakumatt. Donated some of the food stuff to Red Cross
based at Nakumatt Lifestyle near Jivanjee Garden then proceeded to Ruiru Rehabilitation Centre with some goodies for the Children.

The Children and management were very happy to receive us.

We learned that the home has 55 children aged between 6 and 18years and all with a bitter past to tell. Some are opharns while others were neglected children. The Centre does not have donors but is mostly supported by the community around there including churches and Kenyatta University.Students from Kenyatta university come over the weekend wash clothes for the young children .Churches around there help with food.

All I can say is that they are doing a marvelous job.

I would urge all of you to take time and make a visit to the home.

This was just the ground breaking event .

We shall have more events in the near future.

Hi Skerians

Good people, things are not very rosy given the delayed rains yet again.I know of people from one very dry area of the country who do not have food and water. It looks like if the rains fails fo another month, hunger deaths will be reported.

The most urgent need for this people is not dams or roads but FOOD

I would request if there are skerians who are ready to skip lunch from monday (30th March09)to friday (3 April 2009) next week and donate the proceeds from the foregone lunch to save some of these people for a few more days as we wait for the rains.Donation can be in cash or in kind(dry foods).

You can do this, please get in touch with me through the above email.

Thanks to those who have shown interest and actually sent their donation even before the start of the week long 'lunch fast ' . Keep it up .

We will maintain an open book on the donations collected for accountability.

Thanks people.

@All

If you would like to make a difference in the environment,Kindly join members of the SK Charity Club on Saturday,13th June 09 for a tree planting session at the Ruiru Rehabilitation Centre. The home has about 10acres of land and havent planted any trees yet,so we have taken up the initiative to plant at least a tree or more each to make a difference in our environment instead of constantly complaining about it yet we sit back and do nothing to help the situation before it gets out of hand.

If interested to join us,Kindly contact @vision2030 on mpolekabisa@gmail.com or @Leona on reggyzoe@yahoo.com

If you wont be able to avail yourself personally, then please liase with @Vision2030 and donate a tree and we shall plant it for you.

Thank you in advance

Dear All

The tree planting initiative is still very much on this Saturday(13th June).. So if interested to join us,please come and lets make a difference in our environment. It's our time to make the change we've always wanted to see in the world!

You do not have to join the charity club to do this, and we do not have to know who you post on SK as. Our interest is to mobilize as many as possible....and make a change in the world!

The home is on Thika Road,a few metres past Clayworks...You can ask around at the delta petrol station. It's called the Ruiru Rehabilitation Centre.

Please SKerians, lets not sit back and complain about our leaders, while we arent making any significant change whenever we can ourselves.Lets plant trees and save the world from turning into a desert! In Nairobi,we're already being hit hard by water rationing...and the worst is yet to come! Lets at least say we tried..the best we could

Advice is what we ask for when we already know the answer but wish we didn't..

I will let Leona and vision2030 talk about the success and otherwise of the day.

I will also let them talk about how hardworking I am and how I planted something like 100 trees on my own as others were having mbuzi.

It was a great day. I have to say, this was the best experience I have had since I started on this forum. The kids are some of the most positive kids I have ever come accross and you are left humbled. If these kids are happy, why complain all the time?

This was a great day and I hope SK charity club comes up with more of these kind of people helping people events.

In one word : EXCELLENT!

Good People

This is how it all went down on Sato..

First and foremost,I’d like to Thank the following for taking time out of their busy schedule to make a difference not only in the environment, but also in the lives of the kids at the Ruiru Rehab Centre who happen to have once been hopeless orphans and street children, but can now live life positively courtesy of well wishers.

The noble and truly inspiring participants who braved the sun and difficulties to make a difference were(in no particular order)

1. Dexco

2. Shiro(whats your screen name?)

3. Alma

4. Risk taker
5. Leona

We were also lucky to have a few friends that I had invited who ended up helping us greatly coz otherwise we wouldn’t have done much due to the low turnout(planting 48 trees is no joke!). We had 7 other truly wonderful guys! and Ben,a volunteer from KU who is currently reciding at the Centre and helping around.

We managed to plant a total of 48 Trees and flowers at the Rehab centre.

Those who were there can testify that the exercise was kind of strenuous and not for the fainthearted(Lol). We had to slash grass for mulching, dig 2ft holes(square and 2ft depth) plant and water the trees in the scorching sun not forgetting that most of the earth surface at the home is murram, thus rather hard to dig!! But these was a team of strong and totally dedicated dudes and dudettes…so we made it! The kids also helped us fetch water from the neighbourhood since they don’t have water at the home, the little ones gathered manure for us and the big boys also helped us dig the holes and plant. They were very excited to be allocated trees and the homes’ staff promised to follow up on the well being of the trees since the watering bit is always a problemJ

Thank you dear SKerians for making this happen,You truly are a great community!

By the way,you can always pop in to check on the trees whenever you pass by those sides,You’re always welcome to visit anytime and when the passion fruits are ready, you’re free to drop by for a biteJ

We also discussed the possibility of starting a rabbit keeping project as a way generating income for the home,we hope we’ll discuss it further and see if it’s a viable project. They already have a very thriving organic vegetable garden that awed all of us! It’s doing sioooo well

Next time i hope we'll have more guys showing up,coz its only ME and YOU who can make a difference in this world. Forget the leaders/politicians...just do what YOU can.

Have a great day and God bless

@Dexco,Alma,Shiro & Risktaker,Pliz don’t eat me as yet…I’ll send you the pics soonest possibleJ

Skerians,

I would like to thank all the members who supported this tree planting event. You participated positively in bringing positive change in our environment and society as a whole.

I had a last minute must -attend function which I could not miss.I was, however,in constant touch with Leona during the tree planting event.

I would request more people to be attending such life changing events .

The next event for the SK charity will be a visit to a hunger affected area of the country next month .

If you would like to participate please get in touch with Leona or me through the email provided above as we plan on the future of the club.

Plans for the July 2009 visit to a hunger affected area are still ongoing. We have received some cash from Skerians. Please do not be left our as this will greatly impact the beneficiaries of the food proceeds from the cash received.

If you are not able to attend, please give what you can as rains failure has really agravated the already bad situation.

Dry foods or cash will be highly appreciated.

Accountability is guaranteed.Your attendance can prove this.Open to all.

Get in touch for details.
