According to Business Daily,Kenya’s image abroad is likely to suffer injuries from now henceforth. Apparently ICC has previously only intervened in failed states. So Kenya looks like a near failed state that cannot sort out its own mess.
Should we be prepared for rough times? With the current water shortage, failed rains hence not enough food, high fuel costs, looming power rationing starting Aug’09,looming high electricity costs and now ICC,the situation cannot be worse!!!! Do you think foreign investors might start offloading from NSE…Or that we might see less foreign direct investments due to a combination of above factors? Methinks MK has only one option if he wants to redeem Kenya’s image and this is by catching the international community and all MPs by surprise by accepting intervention by ICC in total. In so doing,he should say 'Following intelligence reports,it has been found that a local tribunal could divide the country further. Kenya will henceforth support trials for PEV perpetrators at ICC and will give any necessary assistance, since this is the only way that justice can be obtained for the victims, and also achieve lasting peace'. It would be better to seem to work with ICC,than to seem like you are against and the decision is being imposed on you.
Powerful leaders throughout history always knew the point at which to give in whenever faced by a rock and a hard place. Even Moi always knew when to give in. MK and the self styled Enigma of African politics have no option.
Indeed, dragging the issue to parliament again can only embarrass Kenya further and enhance perception out there that we are just another banana republic…Annan has done the unexpected. Our principles should also just do the unexpected. There is no other option. Otherwise their legacy and Kenya’s image abroad will be deeply hurt.
